My latest jewellery range Elements that is to launch next week, is inspired by the
four elements; Water, Fire, Air and Earth. It celebrates the colours and power of
nature, while maintaining an authentic style and minimal aesthetics.
We all know the four elements of nature in a classical way, and although modern
science has a different take on this, it's not the science or theory I want to talk
about today. I want to delve into nature's power and our desire to stay connected
with nature, even at times when getting outdoors might not be possible - when
our lives are too busy or when our urban areas don't provide us with the
opportunity.
With the speed of life in the 21st century - the stress, technology and increasing
screen time - it is crucially important for us to take time out to recharge, to
connect to nature and to ourselves. Let’s look at some ideas on how to nurture
ourselves and connect with nature in our everyday living- and workplaces and
through what we choose to wear.
The study of the elements forms a bridge from the ancient wisdom of the past to
our present time. There are elemental energies inside each of us. When they are
aligned life is easy, when they are not in balance life can be challenging. We can
connect to these energies within us by finding moments in our lives that are
inspired by nature.
The water element is an energy of flow and flexibility. The water signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are intuitive and sensitive. Mandala artist Patricia Fitzgerald creates complex and intuitive work, I particularly love the Turtle Dream artwork in the picture above. Loved reading the story behind this dream, so uplifting.
The fire element is an energy of vitality and passion. If you are Aries, Leo or Sagittarius your element is fire. Of the four elements, fire is by far the most entertaining, drawing and dynamic element. If your element is Fire you most likely will love decor items like fireplace, candles, images of fire or sunsets/sunrise. Spot incredible work by visual artist Miriam Fitzgerald Juskova titled An Idea below, it looks like a warm glowing flame. The intricate work is three-dimensional paper art.
The air element is an energy of movement and change. If your sign is Gemini, Libra or Aquarius, then you’re are all about action, ideas and motion. You’re likely to be a fast thinker and a great communicator, but also remember to take time to stop, breathe and smile! The earth element is an energy of stability and earthiness. Earth signs keep it real. They are the “grounded” people on the planet. We all need nature; it can enhance our everyday lives in so many different ways.
Some days connecting to nature can be as simple as taking a long walk by the sea,
watching a tree in your back yard, wearing a floral dress, using a notebook with a
picture of your favourite pet, or perhaps drinking your morning coffee from a mug
